This should be your first stop - always. Stock up on farm fresh veg from Mountain Wise farms, local meats ready to throw on the fire pit, and frozen take and bake quiche, soups and cookies for low key days in at the cabin. Don't forget to grab a latte, sourdough loaf, and cinnamon roll to go. Bonus points if you sneak a cookie or two.

Great option for BBQ - dine in or take it to go. This location is relatively close to the Grandfather Vineyard, which makes for a great stop before or after... heck, pack it to go and have yourself a picnic among the grapevines.

A stone's throw away from the cabin and worth the stop for an afternoon of live music (weekends). Open most of the week (check schedule before you go). In the summertime, kids roam the creek (pack water shoes and change of clothes). There is usually a food truck. Snacks and lunch boxes are available. Or, pack a picnic. Either way, you won't be disappointed. It's beautiful in all seasons.

Neighborhoods

A must during your visit. Hit up the Blowing Rock for beautiful views and instagram snaps. Afterwards, pick up a coffee from Bald Guy Brew and walk over to the Blowing Rock playground to let the kids work out some energy. For lunch, stop in to The Speckled Trout and save room for dessert from Kilwin's or Blue Deer Cookies. Great shopping in the area makes for an afternoon well spent. If the library is open, I highly recommend popping in with your babes. There is something for everyone, and if you have time to just sit on a bench and enjoy an ice cream - do it.

Sightseeing

Just a short drive from the cabin, this is a must in all seasons. During the summer time, the free concerts on Friday's are not to be missed. In fall, head up for a walk and breathtaking view of the Valle. In winter, try fly fishing for trout. Either way, the kids will love the playground and wide open space. There's a great paved trail that borders the park, which is perfect for mom and her stroller. Note that clean bathrooms are available as are picnic tables. Don't forget to stop for jerky at The Jerky Outpost on your way. Also, the Mast General Store Annex is walking distance from the park. The original Mast General Store is just down the road.

Short drive from the cabin. Lots, LOTS to do. Hit up the swinging bridge (pack layers because it gets cold up there), see the wildlife, and go for a hike. Spend the day here. You won't regret a single minute of it.
