Heceta Head Lighthouse
U.S. 101Cape Perpetua Lookout
Beautiful view of the coast and some nice walking trails
One of our favorite beaches. If you go at low tide, there are good tide pools with sea stars, mussels, urchins, and more. You can often see seals resting on the jagged rocks. Plenty of sea birds as well for the birding community.

We love to go clamming in Waldport. On the South side of town right next to the highway, there’s a spot where you can simple rake in the sand and find Cockle’s (a species of clam). Or, take a shovel and watch for water squirting out of the ground. If you dig, you could find a massive Gaper clam.

At the end of Colorado street is public beach access. It’s a bit of a steep entrance, with what appears to be an old washed out road leading to the sand, but most should be okay walking down this way. To avoid walking along the highway to Colorado street, you can enter on Texas street, cut across to Stone Ave via a pathway on the south side of Texas Street.

Get there near high tide to watch the waves fill this sea hole and drain in dramatic fashion. There’s also a blowhole in the same area. Super fun!

Gas options
Waldport is the nearest gas to the property. If you’re going South, the next town with gas is Florence, which is about 30 min away. Be sure to fill up in Waldport before going South if you’re getting low.

Watch the weather and tides
The ocean here is beautiful, but can turn ugly. Be sure to watch the tide charts (Waldport is the closest tide station) and the weather. On windy days, the beach can be rather miserable, with moisture and sand getting picked up by the wind and blasted into your face. There are places where, at high tide, the beach will disappear and you’ll get wet or worse.
