The next town over from us (25 mins headed away from the National Park). It has a very cute main street with lots of antique and vintage shopping, and gorgeous murals painted on the walls.

Sightseeing

The entrance to Simpsons Landing, a publicly maintained boat ramp, is right across from our driveway. If you’ve brought your own kayak, you can use that as a launching point. (There’s parking available right next to the ramp so that you don’t have to carry your equipment down our driveway.) If you don’t have your own equipment, there are a variety of local outfitters who rent equipment and can also help plan excursions.

Good Eats

A local burger joint that’s open until 10, which is a little later than the rest on this list. (We go there more often than we’d like to admit — their custards and milkshakes are so good.)

If you want something easy, this local pizza shop is great. Try the “pizzaz” sauce, which is a spicier take on the traditional. We also like their white pies. (This isn't the same as the fondue chain, FYI.)

Gorgeous views, great wine, and great people. Their property line actually goes up to the National Park line, so you can see Skyline Drive from their tasting room.

This vineyard makes some of the best wine in Virginia, in our humble opinion. It’s located in Linden, VA, about 20 minutes from our cabin and requires reservations, but it’s sometimes possible to get one the same day. There’s no wifi or signal there so plan accordingly!

Pick your own apples (and other fruits and veggies depending on the season). This is a very popular spot so be prepared, especially if you go on the weekend during high season. (We love their apple turnovers so we end up going at least once a year).
