Family days out

Wilton house is only 15 minutes away and has beautiful gardens for picnics and a great adventure playground. It also has a river which is fun for children to paddle in. Unfortunately you can’t take dogs. It has a lovely cafe for lunch and afternoon tea. Check it is open as it is closed in the winter months and is often used as a film set.

Brilliant day out for families. It is free to visit, you just pay for parking. It gets very busy in the summer so I would recommend arriving when it opens so you can get a parking space. There are lots of trails for cycling, a train, playgrounds, cafe and the Go Ape ropes course. Book this in advance though.

Fantastic family theme park, besides Pepper Pig the park is great for older children up to 14. Probably not big enough rides for teenagers. There’s a splash area so pack towels and a change of clothes for the log flume! Book in advance in the summer!

Despite appearances this is an absolute gem of a museum. Brilliant day out if you are interested in history and the children love clambering about in the cockpits.

City/town information

Other than being world famous for the music festival, it is known as the quirkiest town in England. Steeped in history, myth and the smell of incense. There are some incredible shops, vegan cafes and there are often events going on in the town. There is also Glastonbury Tor, there are many myths and legends associated with it – being the home of Gwyn ap Nudd, the Lord of the Underworld, and a place where the fairy folk live. See the Glastonbury Tor website for more myth & history. The Tor is now owned and cared for by the National Trust. Between April & October the Tor Bus runs between the Magdalene Street car park and the base of the Tor. There is free access to the public at all times.
