Food scene

No gas here but a fantastic, ever-changing collection of necessities, antiques, and objects of interest. Most importantly- it's the place to get ICE CREAM on balmy summer evenings. They also have bicycle service and free air (donations accepted) for tires.

The closest beach to my listing- less than a mile. Rocky coastline (go at low tide for a sandy spot), lifeguards and a daily parking fee if you must drive. Walk to the far end and you will be in Goosewing Nature Preserve- wonderful bird watching in all seasons.

Centuries of history (check out the Whaling Museum) and culture (take in a show at the Zeiterion Theater). There's a great DIY architectural walking tour (through the New Bedford Preservation Society), not to mention cobblestone streets and a working wharf.
