Food Scene

This is a coffee shop run by the restaurant group behind Rose's Luxury, a James Beard winning restaurant with first come, first serve seating (otherwise I would put it on this list, but it can be a really, really long wait!). The coffee is great and the selection of pastries/donuts is perfect on your walk to the Capital in the morning if you're heading out to sightsee. It turns into a magical wine bar in the evenings!

This is a chain from California and it's seriously the best coffee on the planet. You will feel like you've been lied to about coffee for your whole life when you try it ;-) They have delicious grab and go options for breakfast as well.

This 'make your own' salad company started in DC and is great if you want something healthy while you're on the go. The options are endless and the ingredients are all local and sustainable. There are a ton of locations around DC, but the closest ones to our house are the ones in Eastern Market (221 Pennsylvania Ave SE, Washington, DC 20003) and the one in Navy Yard (1212 4th St SE, Washington, DC 20003).

This diner-like restaurant has delicious food, homemade pop tarts, and boozy milkshakes. Need I say more?!

The Salt Line is a great seafood restaurant. They are also incredibly famous for their burger, which is ironic, but it truly is the best in the city. It's right across from Nats park and you can enjoy some of their cocktails on tap while sitting by the water. You can't beat it!

This is relatively new and SO good. Definitely the best sushi in our area, and right on Barracks Row, so perfect to walk around before/after.

If you are exhausted after a day of sightseeing and just want to order pizza to the house, this is the place to go (and they will definitely know our address as we order from there often!). The crust is unbelievable, the toppings are super fresh, and you can even order ahead of time and set a specific delivery window. Also, this sounds silly, but their house salad is SO delicious too!

You will see a line outside of this place, and it's for good reason. Although this place is pretty much just an upscale Fuddrucker's, their food is seriously legit. The burgers, fries, and shakes will definitely fill you up after a hard day walking around.
