Food Scene

Pig and a Jelly Jar is southern food with a modern twist. I love their scrambles, Kate's favorite is the curry chicken, and their chicken and waffles are great too.

Very budget friendly. We eat here often enough that it has become our go to comfort food spot. Only downside - they close at 5. We keep hoping they will change this.

Favorite favorite favorite. The two men run it are my friends, local figures, and married partners. One is Lebanese and this kitchen is their heart offering to Salt Lake. Service, food, and atmosphere are all just right. This is both my special treat place, and comfort place. Middle Eastern faire with an elegant and personal touch.

Parks & Nature

Because it is in our backyard. Super close, beautiful ponds and hills and playgrounds and splash parks for the kids in summer. Winter is actually my favorite time since it is so quiet and empty.

No ski resort at the top of this canyon, so the traffic is only hikers and picnic bound folks. Just a beautiful drive, and great strolls in the mountains as well. Small charge to use the canyon which you pay on your way out (less than $5).

Getting Around

You can go to temple square if you like, but I mainly tagged it here as a reference point for the layout of the city. The city is on an unusually logical, if non-typical grid pattern. Think latitude and longitude. Read all about it here: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Travel-g60922-c11305/Salt-Lake-City:Utah:Finding.Your.Way.Around.Salt.Lake.City.html

Ok, the tennis center is not a transportation hub, but it is the closest landmark to the bus stop near our house on the corner of 500 E and Harvard. The 205 bus takes you downtown. The UTA website is very helpful.

This building is a joy to be in. The children's room is one of my favorites. Walk to the top to see stunning views of the city, enjoy the art displays, hunt for the working beehive you can view through glass, and sit with a coffee and pastry on the plaza or stroll the garden and water features. No restaurants, but small coffee shops and bookstores as well.
