A regional, professional orchestra based in the heart of Louisiana since 1967, the Rapides Symphony Orchestra presents a full season of concerts and events in the beautiful Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center in downtown Alexandria. The orchestra's popular Pops on the River concert is a local favorite, held annually on the banks of the Red River in September.

A lovely, midsized facility, the Alexandria Zoological Park participates in about 20 Species Survival Plans (SSP), including Andean condor, Chinese alligator, clouded leopard, colobus monkey, cotton-top tamarin, and others. In addition, the zoo is home to other threatened or endangered species, including African dwarf crocodile, American crocodile, American black bear, Bengal tiger, Galapagos tortoise, Palawan peacock pheasant, and red kangaroo.
