Food Scene
If the Versailles market is too far for you, the Viroflay market offers a miniature version, only 10 minutes away by walking ! I like to go there to buy some duck terrine.

While the price range is above average, the restaurant has become iconic to the gardens. Grabbing some ice-cream there on a hot summer day is simply perfect.

As you might notice when you arrive, there are many Chinese restaurants in Viroflay ! There are three within a 2mins walk from our's. All are held by Chinese chefs who really know what they are doing: they mostly cater to tourist groups from China, as the buses take them from Versailles to Paris. We particularly like this one ! Avoid going there at the same time as a tourist group, it might be crowded and loud, but in the evenings it's much calmer.

The Marché de Versailles is a must-see. Covered areas are open on most days, but if you are around on a Sunday morning, it's by far the most impressive (and delicious!). Make sure to compare prices though: You can find super cheap deals, as well as complete rip-offs !

I really enjoy going there, because it's usually open when everything else is closed ! Great French food for 10-15 euros, with a glass of wine. Having tried most of their menu by now, I've never been disappointed !

Definitely the best bakery in the area! Make sure to try their "cereales" (it's a type of bread), their pains au chocolat, or their famous apple tarts, which look like a bouquet of roses. The queue is often long, but by the time you make up your mind, it'll be your turn!

Drinks & Nightlife
This massive bar also serves food. But people mostly go there for the chill atmosphere... And the pool tables ! They have quite a few, so be sure to write your names on a waiting list.

This studenty bar is a bit grungy, with cheap and tasty cocktails. Great for a night-out, for those who aren't looking for anything fancy. I particularly like the way people write and draw in menus. If you're lucky, yours might contain puns with the cocktail names !

Sightseeing
This adorable area is known as "Saint Louis", because of the square and the church nearby. Walking through, you will get a typical Versailles atmosphere, with small colourful shops on the way and cafes.

As you'll quickly notice, this neighborhood of 5 or 6 streets is very unique. All the residents have agreed on a house-design and colour-coded their blinds and doors ! The visual is quite charming and makes for a great walk.

Filled with art galeries, (really well) hidden cafes and antique shops, walking around this neighborhood on a sunny day is simply beautiful !

On the map, the forest looks far away, but it actually starts in Viroflay, so you can access it next to the train station (Viroflay Rive Gauche). Then you start walking East - I love how quickly the forest takes you to unexpected areas, like a large grassy clearing.

The gardens of the castle don't require any ticket (except when they have shows going on). So you can enter from the side. It's really lovely on a warm day, with a lot of families playing around the canal. I particularly enjoy cycling around (of course you can walk around but that might take you some solid hours!)

This forest is actually accessible from our place, simply by walking 10 minutes, in the direction of the train station, but beyond the train tracks. The forest is big but really well indicated, the tracks are comfortable, and there aren't too many people there.

Arts & Culture
It's one of the last royal manufacture that is still open and running (using the same techniques as before! Well, more or less) Their ceramics have become world-famous, and the museum is quite intriguing. You will never see so many dishware designs.

The Chateau is unmissable - in part due to its size ! It's free for EU nationals under 26, and you don't need to get a ticket. Since the queues can get really long, don't hesitate to simply walk in with an ID, if you are eligible. If you are not, it could save you some time to get your entrance ticket beforehand.
