Cenac is situated on the banks of the Dordogne River. This is where you can rent canoes and paddle down the river (a designated National Park) watch wildlife like Eagles and kingfishers, see grand castles in high positions above the river, go under ancient bridges, pass Chateaux, see some of the most beautiful villages in France like La Roque Gageac, soak up the sun and enjoy the environment. Stop for lunch at a riverside cafe or restaurant. This day out is a must do and does not require any level of fitness. My 80 year old mother thoroughly enjoyed it. Once you reach a destination point, drifting with the current down the river, the canoe renters will bring you and the canoe back to where you started.

On the banks of the Dordogne River with beautiful Parklike Grounds is the chateau once owned by the Paris socialite and stage performer Josephine Baker. Her story is interesting and compelling and the chateau is presented as a museum to her memory. There is a bird of prey show which is a must do and takes place in the grounds. There is a nice cafe/restaurant onsite.

City advice

Getting around

You will need a car. There is no public transport.

There is a nice walk from the Villa. Turn left out of the entrance and follow the track down the hill. Pass through the ancient stone village. At the bottom of the hill you needd to turn left but first you can visit the river before proceeding towards Gaumier, turning left again at the Gaumier to Florimont Road which will take you back to the villa. Look and listen for woodpeckers. Look for Hoopoe Birds. Enjoy the isolation and the countryside.
