great music
With live samba acts every night of the week, as well as unforgettable performances on the weekend, Carioca da Gema is one of the best places to go in Lapa to catch some of the best musicians on the samba scene. In addition to great music that gets even the shyest guests tapping their feet, the venue also serves deliciously smooth cocktails and delicious authentic pizzas.

Great place to grab a few souvenirs for a decent price, check out local artists work and people watch. The market is only open on Sundays from 8-8ish and has a wide variety of vendors.

City advice

Getting around

Subways and Uber are the safer ways to get around

During your stay you can use the subway, we have the chance to have a subway station close to the apartment, which takes you to many places in Rio. If you want to go somewhere far from a subway station, I recommend taking an uber or taxi. I don't recommend the buses, the drivers run like crazy, it can be very crowded, it's very difficult to understand their itinerary and their stop, and I don't think it's very safe.
Don't miss

Beaches of Rio

The top 3 beaches in Rio's South Zone are Ipanema, Copacabana, and Leme. I have a preference for Ipanema, where I grew up, and it's also the one I know best. Ipanema Beach has a somewhat tribal vibe. The LGBT crowd gathers in front of Farme de Amoedo Street. The modern-day hippies are between Vinicius Street and Posto 9. Posto 9 used to be the surfers' spot when I was younger, but I've read that they're now mostly at Arpoador, where there are better waves. The more upscale crowd hangs out between the Country Club and Garcia d'Avila Street. You can reach all these beaches by metro. Leme Beach
