Fat Cat has delicious food, reasonably priced adult beverages, and a cozy environment. It gets busy at peak times, so there may be a wait for a table, but that's because it's consistently so good. The Mac and Cheese is huge and delicious!

The Fours is the restaurant we always end up at when we want consistently good food, friendly bartenders, and ample parking. They have an extensive menu of New England comfort food, a huge number of draft beers, and a large bar that almost always has a spot available. Park in the big lot and you can explore Quincy Center after your meal.

Really good sushi in a brand new building in Quincy Center. It can be pricey depending on what you order, but as long as you steer away from the ones with gold flakes and the like it can be quite reasonable. We've been going to their previous location up the street for years, and this new spot is a very nice upgrade. It also gets really busy at peak dinner times, so we like to go for lunch when it's bright and sunny in the bar and there's plenty of seats.

This is the place to go for fried seafood eaten outside on the deck, Cape Cod style. You can also get it to go and walk across the street and sit on the seawall. There's a great view of Boston and the Harbor Islands. We always get the Seafood Platter with the whole belly clams, but if the whole belly are a bit too New Englandy for you, they'll substitute clam strips. It's more than enough for 2 to share.

A bit off the beaten path, this hidden gem is the spot for sitting on the porch eating tapas and taking in the view of the harbor. They redesigned the outdoor area and menu last year and it now has a great outdoor bar, delicious small plates and tapas, and a great view. It's a very popular spot for brunch, and gets pretty busy then, but a sunny weekend day is perfect.

This is a new bar/restaurant that's part of the revitalization of Quincy Center. It has a groovy 70's vibe and great craft cocktails. They change the menu all the time, so you never know what you'll find, but it's always well thought out and delicious. One of the few places in town that doesn't have the TV on constantly. Not open until 4pm.

Grumpy White's is the place the locals go for inexpensive food and drink that never leaves you wanting. They are also one of the few restaurants with a parking lot. We love the "Grumpy Double Burger" and hanging out at the bar chatting with the locals. It's what many would call a "Family Restaurant" because they have big servings of comfort food and free popcorn. Be warned, they mix a strong cocktail! Keep an eye out for the flock of turkeys that sometimes hangs out behind the parking lot.

This is our regular place to get Chinese takeout or a pupu platter and scorpion bowl at the bar. This is East Coast style Chinese food, so not the place if you are looking for an authentic Chinatown type experience. It's more the place for Egg Foo Yung and Chow Mein. They have a big bar and parking in back.

Small, fancy, and excellent. The Townshend is the place to go for your fancy night out, or if someone else is paying. The bartender is top notch and makes really special cocktails. Food is elegantly presented and meticulously prepared.

Massachusetts has weird old liquor laws called "Blue Laws" that limit the places that can sell and what they can sell (Some supermarkets carry wine and beer, some don't. You can't buy alcohol before 10am on Sundays. You can't have 2 drinks, like a shot and a beer, served at the same time.) This place has everything and a huge selection of local and microbrew beer.

Squantum Point Park is where you can catch the ferry into Boston. The ferry is seasonal so be sure to check out mbferry.com for further information. The ferry is $8.50 each way and parking is $5 for the whole day. For comparison it's common to pay $35 or more just to park in Boston for the day. It's a beautiful trip across the harbor and you get a great view of the Boston Harbor Islands. The ferry drops off at 1 Central Wharf in Boston, which is adjacent to the New England Aquarium (near to the North End, Quincy Market, Chinatown, the Theater District, and lots more) and at Seaport Fan Pier (abutting the financial district and filled with great restaurants).

Parks & Nature

Right across the street is Blacks Creek. If you take the trail to the left it takes you through the marsh trail to Pageant Field and the Boathouse that you can see from the front porch. Take it to the right and it winds through the woods to Quincy Shore Drive and the beach. Blacks Creek is great for bird watching and hosts an amazing variety of shore birds throughout the year. There's a family of swans who stop by for a few weeks each spring, and we've seen a Bald Eagle fighting a Black Vulture, dozens of Snowy Egrets at once, and Great Blue Heron daily.

This is our private neighborhood beach that you have access to with your keychain. It's rocky and therefore not the best for swimming, but great for hanging out soaking up the sun, or watching a sunset. They have a bunch of fun events over the summer (food truck fest, jazz brunch, etc.) and a little snack shack where you can get hot dogs and hamburgers. If you want to swim make sure to go close to high tide, otherwise it's pretty shallow.

This is the closest beach (30 minute drive) that is your typical, sandy, Cape Cod type beach. If you are looking for a beach to spend the day playing in the surf and lounging in the sand, this is it. It's paid parking and a bit crowded on hot days, but we only get so many hot days around here, so this is true of most beaches. There's also a cool old carousel that you can ride and a nice restaurant across the street.

If you golf, we hear this is a pretty cool course. It has sweeping views of Boston and is a "Links" course which means something to golfers. We are not golfers (in case you couldn't tell), but we go to the bar and enjoy the views.
