Food Scene

One of my favorites. Great food/environment, not cheap but not too expensive. Extremely popular. (Even Bill & Hillary Clinton came to eat here.) If you have a long wait time, hang at the bar in back!

Great spot. Excellently crafted deep-fried rice balls with filling...Ragu, Spinach & Ricotta, Chicken & Fontina, Nutella (yum), and more. You can also order from inside Wreck Room, the bar next door.

Simple burger place with good burgers. Try the chorizo burger! Canned/bottled beer also sold here. I think it's closed on Mondays.

Used to be called Cafe Orwell, but a French couple bought it in 2011 and changed the name to Ange Noir. I don't go here often, but it sometimes has little shows. Eccentric and just down the block.

Excellent little ramen spot. You can bring your own alcohol, and order a bowl of their standard ramen, and you're set for a good night. Best ramen I've had in Brooklyn.

Drinks & Nightlife

A legit Brooklyn dive bar. Graffiti and car parts adorn the place, and there are two pool tables. Cheap drinks. Music varies from rock to hip hop to pop to...you never know. Gross bathrooms, though.

This is a bar for everybody. It's a welcoming environment, and dogs are allowed inside. They have a decent selection of beers, and they have events: a pub quiz on Wednesdays, karaoke on Thursdays.

This is a great Bushwick dive bar. I love coming here with a friend, for its relaxed environment. There's a back alley for smoking, and awesome happy hour specials.

A little off-the-map, tucked into an alleyway with a terrace. It's a great spot to check out the locals, try some good beer, and (every once in a while) hear some live music.

I love this bar! They offer hot cider and hot toddies in the winter. Duckduck may have a weird name, but it has an awesome atmosphere and lots of cool locals go here.

Everything Else

This is an "organic" bodega. Open 24 hours a day, with a deli that sells inexpensive but delicious sandwiches. A bit expensive for daily groceries, but wonderful if you're only buying a few items.

Great little wine shop! Buy wine or liquor here on your way home from the train. Even the $10 wines are pretty good. And sometimes they have tastings!
