Food Scene

Best neighbourhood cafe ever. Amazing place to have lunch for ±8€, or breakfast (nice juices and pastry). Portuguese vibe menus with an international twist. They usually have meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Cool brunch during weekend. And also expressos, lattes, cappuccinos, juices, milkshakes,... good for meetings in a quiet place near home, or to plan your trips.

Nice place to have a light dinner or a drink. It has a space outside with typical portuguese decoration, "hanging gardens" and candles... Frequented by young people, it has a great vibe! Go during the week, cause it's crowded on weekends.

Anthony Bourdain was there to eat the best seafood. Always crowded, so book a table or get there early. A bit expensive, though, but you will feel the taste of the sea!

Less expensive and way less crowded than the famous Ramiro, it allows you to eat good seafood without losing all your vacation's money.

It's a restaurant (tapas and finger food), it's a bar, it's a club. Always relaxed and with concerts/DJ sets, it's a must when you want to drink at a not so crowded street (at leat like Bairro and Cais do Sodré ones) and sometimes go inside for a sweaty concert or DJ set. Til 4am, the perfect place to go before going to a club.

Good vegetarian restaurant near home. It has tables outside, cool for a summer lunch or early dinner. With 4 dishes everyday, always a good experience at a fair price.

It's the typical Lisbon lunch restaurant, with grandma's homemade dishes and a folklore portuguese vibe, with the typical kitsch pictures of famous portuguese people on the walls. It's not over priced, but the doses are huge, so prepare to split or take some home. Chocos ao alho are a must, but also a good place for bacalhau.

Go early to book a table. It's and old tradicional portuguese shoped turned into a small restaurant with candles and that new portuguese vibe. Small portuguese tapas with a chef's twist. A must go before going out, and very romantic, but chilled. Not pricy for the experience, trust me. It's around 20/30€ per person with wine.

Everything Else

If you are a truly electronic music lover, you have to go there. If you're not, you have to go there also! One of the best clubs I've ever been to! Great vibe of beautiful and interesting people.

If you want to go somewhere to dance during the week and you don't like bars with "MTV music", Musicbox is the answer! But check the programme, it has different styles of music every night.

It's a cool underground bar with a psychedelic vibe. Young artistic crowds join for a coffee in the afternoon, or early drinks. The music is funky, and they have a smokey room full of young people from all over the world, chatting on this cultural association. A nice start of a night in the neighbourhood.

Members only bar. But you buzz at door and ask to be a new member (3€ fee). It has a artistic and underground vibe with new musical approaches. Expect the unexpected, like jazzy tunes at 3am, or fucked up electronic. During the week, in Desterronics, they invite a bunch of electronic performers and with their machines they improvise electronic music. You have also some rooms to talk and play chess. It's a strange, but cool experience.

It's not a bar, it's a cultural association with some cool events, like Feira das Almas (Flea Market, first weekend of the month), jazz jam sessions on wednesdays (5 til 11pm), but go early, cause it's crowded. Check os ask for the weekend program: thay have pretty cool matinées or after hours with the local upcoming electronic music scene. You have to become a member to get in (±3€).

I mean, it's one of the best clubs that I've ever been to, architectural, crowd and music-wise, and I've been in NY, London, Berlin, Barcelona, and Paris ones. Go if you like electronic music. It has 2, 3 floors during summer with the terrace, where you can drink a Luxini (ice cream cocktails). The down floor is a proper club, with a killer soundsystem for house and techno. The middle floor is disco and funky. Go on Thursdays if you want to get in and don't like crowds. Friday is the best day. But always check the program for the international DJs. Go between 1.30 and 2.30 to avoid the big line. Be patient and behave while waiting. Wear simple but stylish clothes, not fancy, and dance!

Bairro Alto was "The" neighbourhood a couple of years ago, but with the touristic scene exploding and new options on Cais do Sodré for a more hip crowd, now BA is full with tourists and young kids drinking on the streets. You cant try a night of rally paper drinking, but if you want to settle somewhere, go to Suave, where the music is groovy and soulful and you can seat while having a cocktail.

Sightseeing

You have to check all sightseeing places in Lisbon, but this one you can walk through home. Just turn left when leaving the house and go through Rua Ilha do Principe til you find some stairs in the middle of two houses. Just go up and enjoy the view. After lunch and til the sun goes down, you have a small cafe and sun loungers. It's one of the less touristic and crowded miradouros, ideal for reading a book.

"Adamastor", as it is known, is the place where young people go to see the sunset, with a view of the river. You can grab a large beer and two glasses and just hang there. There's always music from the street musicians, and a cool young vibe. If you want a more intimate and bar experience, instead of mingling, go to Noobai, where you can also eat some tapas.
