Our favorite LOCAL eating spots (walkable)

Some of our favorite coffee and treats, in a wonderfully cool spot to sit alone or meet someone! Often busy, but worth the wait!
Favorite local coffee shop - and a great place to sit for a while, alone or in conversation! Fun people watching too!

Only the BEST ice cream around! With ever-changing flavours, some of them vegan and gluten-free (even tasty for those of us who don't always choose those options). The best thing was taking one of our friends who is deathly allergic to NUTS, and she could choose from any of the options because they are a NUT FREE ice cream shop!

Oh my - everything we've eaten at this local pub is delicious... but you MUST try the Duck Fat Fries.... out of this world! :-) Also, seating is lovely streetside, especially under the ginkgo trees!

Another walkable ( a bit longer walk, but worth it ) restaurant - which always pleases! Started out as a successful food cart - became this wonderful restaurant serving the freshest and most delicious Mexican food! Try the "Cart Bowl" and add avocado and chicken!

Super good sushi - tasty, fresh, responsibly harvested... and the environment is airy and artful, great ambience for a special date, but also casual enough for not needing to dress up! Easy walk... and - best deal is getting there for Happy Hour M-F 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm.

A favorite of ours in the food carts on 28th (between Ankeny and Ash) - highly recommend the lamb over rice dish! Our go-to for a comfort food our mothers didn't even make!
