Amazing views from this lovely pub/restaurant. Great breakfasts - try the tacos for something a bit different.

Best cheap full English in Whitby. Greasy cafe style, very friendly, gets busy/full quickly.

There are a LOT of fish and chips places in Whitby but this is our pick. Small, friendly, cheaper than most and just as good (better, in our view, than the higher-profile Trenchers or Magpie cafes).

Best restaurant in Whitby, in our view, but very difficult to get a reservation. It's essential to book ahead (like months ahead!) as it's a small, family-run bistro. Very high quality food but still great prices.

A very quirky cafe with eclectic furnishings, highly personalised by the current owners. Serves the best coffee in Whitby (apart from us, of course!) and some decent cakes. Vegan/ veggie friendly. Food is OK, nothing special, go here for the coffee and cakes.

Star of many travel shows featuring Whitby, Fortune's is the best (only?!) place to buy beautifully smoked kippers at excellent prices. Makes a great gift to take home on your last day.

Seems funny to recommend a chain coffee shop with all the amazing cafes in Whitby BUT, generally speaking, Whitby doesn't do coffee very well. Costa baristas make consistently good coffee and it's great value.

There are 2 Botham's tea shops in Whitby but this is the bigger one and it has an amazing throwback tea shop on the first floor above the bakery which is like travelling back to the 80s! Really quaint, serene and a quite lovely experience.

A French-style cafe with a lovely, eclectic interior and a very cute 'snug' area at the back. Excellent for a drink and snack - also open in (some?) evenings but gets booked out very quickly.

Access the beach at Whitby front and you can walk all the way to Sandsend. It's lovely and there are a couple of cafes in Sandsend at the end of the walk. Sandside cafe is OK, nothing special, but is dog-friendly and has great views.

Definitely worth the climb up the 199 steps! In our view, the Abbey shop has a great array of interesting and cool gifts which, surprisingly, are actually very well priced, not a rip-off as you might expect!

A fantastic spot for sitting on a bench and admiring the view which, on a sunny day especially, is absolutely spectacular.
