Swimming off the riverside beach at Roquebrun (30 mins from house), is lovely and you can hire kayaks there. It has some good restaurants with amazing views in the valley.

There are superb sandy beaches stretching from Sete to Valras Plage, south of Beziers. We particularly like La Tamarissiere, a long sandy beach backing on to a pine forest with a wide canal at one end that can be crossed on a tiny ferry (60 mins drive from house).
