The Black Rock viewpoint, in the south of Phuket, has been known for a while but it’s among the most challenging ones to reach if you are not familiar with the area. It also requires a car or even better, a motorbike to get there. You will need to be in a decent physical condition as it involves some steep walking.

Rawai Seafood Market started as a modest local fisherman village where you would buy some local catch to take home. Rawai beach in the very south of Phuket is also known as the Sea Gypsy Village and has always been a bit of an exotic attraction. Year after year, the small market grew in popularity and a few restaurants started to cook the fish you just bought across the street. The concept was popular, fun and cheap, so tourists heard of it. More restaurants opened, more tourists came, prices went up. The rest is history.

Year after year, the small market grew in popularity and a few restaurants started to cook the fish you just bought across the street. The concept was popular, fun and cheap, so tourists heard of it. Also-known-as Lardyai (talaad yai), which means ‘big market’ in southern Thai dialect, this weekly market started in October 2013 and is hosted on the beautifully renovated Thalang Road, right in the middle of the historical Sino-Portuguese district of Phuket Town. Thalang is a 350m-long commercial and cosmopolitan street which hosts a mix of Baba (Chinese migrants settled in Phuket at the beginning of the 20th century during the tin mining era), Thai Muslim and Indian shops. Phuket Walking Street allows visitors to discover some typical southern Thai culinary specialties as well as local handicraft and gift stalls. This weekly event (every Sunday from 16:00 – 22:00) is definitely family-oriented with the presence of toy stalls and a (free-of-charge) trampoline to entertain the little ones.
