The ruins of the Cathedral of Hamar are inside a glass dome at Domkirkeodden (Promontory of the Cathedral), also a very nice spot by the lake with wooden houses that are hundreds of years old. It's a good place for a peaceful walk.

From a mini-harbour in the beach area Koigen in Hamar you can take a trip with Skibladner, a graceful paddle steamer from the 19th century. Close to the harbour is the famous Stupetårnet (the world's most over-the-budget, small diving tower) in an area with skating and other facilities, popular among teenagers. A short musical was made about the Stupetårnet scandal and how the budget came to exceed 2000 percent of what was planned for! Helgøya (the Holy island) is a beautiful island in the middle of Mjøsa, a 45 minutes drive from here (there is a bridge). The name was given by munks living there during the Middle ages. Going there, you could stop at Skafferiet at the Nes peninsula – a magnificent, popular garden café at a traditional, well kept farm with white wooden houses and possibly a few animals in the fields surrounding it. The Hedemarken area (middle part of Hedmark county) you are now in is one of the two in Norway with farming possibilities good enough to sustain the feudal system and thus quite a few large farm buildings can be found in the area. Many of these farms sell locally produced and ecological food and beverages.

From the old hotel Høsbjør, possible to see from here, you get a magnificent view of the lake Mjøsa and it's surroundings. It takes a 25 minutes drive to get there (or slightly more by bike!). From the hotel you can park your car and hike further up (you can take the 20-minute track or the 60-minute one) to the hang glider ramp at Høsbjørgkampen for a breathtaking view.

Brumunddal is a town 15 minutes drive to the north. They are deservedly proud of Mjøsparken, a park with excellent skateboarding facilities, and a swimming-friendly and handicap-friendly lake. The park is close to Woods, the tallest wooden building in Europe. At the rooftop of the hotel is a restaurant with a panoramic view of Furnesfjorden.

A three minutes drive from here is Jessnesstranda, a charming and peaceful beach and holiday house area with many types of holidays houses from the last century. At the northern end of it there is a quite long beach which is nice to swim at, and the café Fiskerhytta (The Fishermens cottage) with miniature copies of the largest trouts catched in this part of the lake since the 1930s. There is a small artificial island very close by you can swim to, and a playground for children, in good shape. From the southern end you could continue further all the way to Domkirkeodden and Hamar on a path along the lake, reserved for walking and bicycling.
