Parks & Nature

Known as the Roman Sulphur baths of Hedionda. The high sulphur content is due to a sulphur spring which flows from a limestone outcrop above the valley. It attracted the attention of the Romans 2000 years ago and an arched bathing complex was created of which four chambers still exist. Julius Caesar is said to have cured himself of a skin infection by bathing here. The baths are quite popular on summer days when a strong wind makes the beach uncomfortable. Families from the village picnic on the surrounding grass under the shade of eucalyptus trees and the children take over the baths. Unfortunately the area is not maintained however this should not stop you from visiting at leat once.

Famous for its outstanding and large selection of restaurants, Benahavís is a wealthy, pretty town, home to many different international communities and a lot of fantastic restaurants. It’s winding, narrow streets sloping up and down the mountain side give it a unique charm. And the gorge that winds through the bottom of the town provides hours of fun for swimming, diving and canyoning in the summer months, offering a good distraction from the beaches of Marbella. Depending on the season and the adventure level of the tour members, canyoning and walking options are available through the river, as well as a gentler 1hr walk across the new Bridge and into the Las Angosturas Natural Park.

With an population of 70,000, Estepona is one of the few coastal towns that has succeeded in maintaining its pueblo charm and character. Notwithstanding, all the tourist facilities are here, including hotels, restaurants, leisure and cultural activities, and shops. The numerous street cafes and tapas bars still serve traditional Spanish delicacies. In the 'old town' the steep, narrow streets are pedestrianised and decorated with different colour flower pots.  It is a delight for photographers.  You will find bars and small shops in Estepona, where you'd least expect them, all very inviting, very friendly.
