Sightseeing

Bodie Island Lighthouse is South of Nags Head. It is open to climb from the end of April - Columbus day in October. Be sure to check the National Park site as it's part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. There are also some nature trails there that include a boardwalk out to the sound. Beautiful place for family pictures!

Arguably the best spot to watch the sunset on the Outer Banks. The sand dunes at Jockey's Ridge are beautiful, it is a 426 acre State Park. There are restrooms, a museum, and occasionally guided hikes/activities (check their website). For the more adventurous, hang gliding lessons are offered typically through Kitty Hawk Kites.

http://www.ncaquariums.com/roanoke-island The aquarium on Roanoke Island is home to the STAR (Sea Turtle Assistance and Rehabilitation) center. They basically run a turtle hospital for sea turtles who have been cold stunned and or harmed by boats. The aquarium also runs a variety of other programs daily. In addition to having some really neat sea creatures on display. It will be enjoyable for everyone in the family.
