Outdoor Adventures

One of our favorite local hikes with a beautiful view as your reward at the end. The length is suitable for kids, but younger ones may need help with the elevation change. An easier hike than Maryland Heights at just under 3 miles there and back with easy and ample parking.

A gentle stroll along the historic C&O canal is perfect for everyone. While this is the closest entrance there are many with different historical aspects. It’s an easy bike ride to Harpers Ferry and Maryland Heights and back in a day.

A moderate hike 6.2 mile hike with plenty of elevation to the cliffs across the river from Harpers Ferry - but the view makes it worth the sweat. Parking at the trail head is limited to two small alcoves along the road that hold maybe a dozen cars each though it is possible to park at the Harpers Ferry National Park entrance, take the bus into town and cross the train bridge to the C&O then walk the short distance to the trail head.

We have a number of rafting and tubing outfitters in the area but HFAC is the only one that also includes zip lining and a ropes course in their offerings.

Historical Adventures

Definitely not to be missed is the historic town of Harpers Ferry. The park provides guests with a shuttle bus from the parking lot to down town for a small entrance fee, otherwise parking is extremely limited in the town itself. There are quite a few small restaurants and shops in downtown for when you’ve had enough history.

Though our area is dotted with dozens of smaller battle fields (which also double as gentle-moderate hikes) those interested in Civil War history will want to take the short drive to Antietam National Battle field. Do one stop or continue through all the linked parks in and around Sharpsburg, Md.
