Food scene

This is a great place to go for breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine, or coffee. It's a little slice of Tuscany. They have live folksy music most weekends, and sometimes more lively bands on weekend evenings. Special events like Octoberfest and wine tasting are often advertised. Big screen sports tvs and outdoor pizza kitchen. Cool and hip for all ages and families, too! For a slightly more upscale experience, try the Italian restaurant on site. Great food, ambiance, service and views of the golf course and manmade lake. For those that enjoy a young night scene Bogarts is a night club that attracts a wide variety of locals.

Fantastic walkable cafe. Be sure to say hello to Sima (the owner and usually at the cash register) and let her know we sent you. GREAT coffee, homemade pastries, and food. My favorite is breakfast, but you can go any time of day for a fresh, healthy meal and a great dessert!

Sightseeing

The beaches from north to south of Agoura are amongst some of the best and most popular in Southern California. Driving along the coast is a great way to spend a day, stopping wherever suits you for a picnic, a coffee, wine, or a meal.
This is a must-do for anyone visiting from out of town. Santa Monica is not as far away as LA, and has so much to do! Great food, wonderful beach scene, and plenty of sightseeing. There are plenty of small, local theaters in the area too. Check out Goldstar for last minute tickets at discounted prices.

Whether you plan to drive the scenic coast to escape or avoid the fwys, or spend a day at the beach, Malibu is intoxicating. Every kind of food you can imagine, but you have to "dig in" to yelp to find just what you're looking for. The Malibu Pier has a couple of great restaurants. They are owned by the same people, but they each have their own flavor. The one at the beginning of the pier is pricier and more conventional. Great views and ambiance. The one at the end of the pier is more casual and features outdoor seating on the roof and lots of farm-to-table organic and vegan options.

This beautiful beachfront park is a local gem of a secret. There are people who've lived here alll their lives that don't know about it. It's easy to get to and access. It's a great alternative to the sand. It offers picturesque views of the ocean and lagoon, beautifully manicured gardens, clean bathrooms, and plenty of quiet shade on a sunny day. For a very interesting docent-led tour of the historic home, check the website for times. It costs less than $10/person and it's really worth it to visit inside the home and learn a lot about local history. You can take a picnic inside and sit in any part of the gardens you like. On occasion parts of the property are closed to the public for weddings and private events.

Getting around

LA travel is all about timing.

Freeways can be extremely crowded. Leaving home at the wrong time for a long drive can really put a damper on your days events. Plan ahead. Leave early. Consider giving into it and enjoy the car ride with family and friends. A nice alternative to the 405 and 101 fwys is taking the coast. Both Kanan and Malibu Canyon Road lead you through a beautiful canyon drive with great views to the Pacific Coast Highway. The Coast Hwy can get crowded and busy on beautiful weekend days, or rush hour.
