Yelp describe Pinehurst Pub as a great place for "pub grub & breakfast in a basic sports lounge with TV screens, pool tables & a digital jukebox." One of the top zoo and conservation centers in the US and practically in our backyard, this place is great for kiddos and adults alike! My partner and I had zoo passes before becoming parents because it was a great place to go for pleasant strolls, concerts (yes! that's not a typo - check out the zoo tunes concerts in the summer), and special events. As the largest park in Seattle, Discovery park sits atop Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound, with spectacular views of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. The secluded site includes two miles of protected tidal beaches as well as open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active sand dunes, thickets and streams. The role of Discovery Park is to provide an open space of quiet and tranquility away from the stress and activity of the city, a sanctuary for wildlife, as well as an outdoor classroom for people to learn about the natural world.

This is a very unique local, secret spot with great views hiking or running through foresty and (at times) swampy trails. This is great for groups, families or solo travelers alike, with beautiful views of lilypad fields, the UW stadiums, the crew teams gliding across the water with oarlocks beating like drums over the water. You'll be able to see lots of different Seattle and UW vistas from a magical trail that offers continually changing experiences, flora and fauna as you go. Highly recommended - just be sure you're ready to get your sneakers a little muddy (and that's part of the magic)!

Voula's is a local, family-run breakfast favorite. Guy Fieri's show, Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives featured it for its creative, delicious breakfast dishes. It's incredibly popular on the weekends beginning around 10am, so try to get there early or else you'll need to wait outside (limited space inside). Tables inside the diner are very close together and there is also a traditional counter and stools you can sit at and watch the cooks. Portions are very large, and are accompanied by a heaping serving of delicious hash browns, which you can smell the minute you walk into Voula's. A favorite menu item is the Piñata Benedict and local seafood omelette variations. ;)

A favorite menu item is the Piñata Benedict and local seafood omelette variations. ;)
A 3-minute bus-ride away to the most glorious smelling waffle cones around in the well-known "U Village" high-scale shopping center, filled with clothing, gardening and furniture boutiques; cafe's (including Starbucks), many food options all surrounded by romantic lighting by night and occasional free live music performances by day. Steps away and nestled in a plaza where everyone in your group can find something for them, this wonderful family-run teriyaki place is one of our favorites in the city! It offers great service, delicious (free) soup while you wait, sample platters and excellently cooked and flavored chicken teriyaki. Definitely worth a visit, considering Seattle and the west coast of the US are known for some of their really great teriyaki.

This is one of the most popular espresso stands around. Though already in the the city, commuters to downtown stop off an exit early to specifically hit this favorite drive-or-walk-through. Their breakfast burritos and sunshine espresso are highly recommended, as are their to-die-for lattes, w/ expert froth. They have drive-through and walk-through windows on both sides so as to expedite getting you your cup-o-Joe. Sweet service that is respectful of women and has a great sense of humor, posting: "no pasties, just great pastries"! If you like something even more original than the twists on the regular cup-o-Joe, try the Red Bull Italian Sodas! :)

Chiang’s has four menus: an Americanized Chinese menu, with all the usual suspects; a traditional Chinese menu, full of authentic dishes that you probably didn’t know even existed; a secret vegetarian menu that you have to ask for specially; and an especially wonderful weekend Taiwanese made-to-order dim-sum menu. Or you can just let them bring you things you will like. It is all very, very delicious.

With local reviewers using phrases like "Very personal and attentive service with great food and wine", "best ribeye steak I've ever had" and "king salmon was delicious", you'd think it was crowded and stuffy. Nope. Other reviewers speak of its "quiet and welcoming atmosphere" great for talking and socializing. We couldn't be happier it's in our neighborhood!

Our family's favorite Indian restaurant in all of Seattle. We happened to walk into this family-owned and operated gem about 12 years ago for a lunch break from the University. Nestled at the top of "The Ave" - the famous conglomeration of international restaurants near the University of Washington, you might miss it if you don't have an "insider" telling you about it. It's got all the charm and intimacy of a family dining room, with the taste and flavor rivaling some of the more well-known (and much more expensive) places in the city. We've watched the family that runs it go throughout changes and their children grow; the service is heartwarming and the dishes delicious - highly recommended

We are so lucky to live in a great neighborhood for vegan and vegetarian options. In fact, the longest-standing vegetarian restaurant in Seattle, the Sunlight Cafe, is only a quick ride or brisk walk to the South. The Sunlight Cafe has been enjoyed by local vegetarians and vegans for decades and was specifically founded by friends whose passion for good vegetarian and vegan food speaks for itself. A local reviewer called it right when they said it was a "Local institution" known all-around for its vegan & vegetarian dishes "served in a space with a hippie vibe." Also offering *gluten free* options, as well as additive-free wine and beer!
