Rubel Castle was established on a 1.7 acre citrus orchard in 1959 and the construction was completed in 1986. It could be thought of as the first major recycling project in the United States. It is currently owned and operated by the Glendora Historical Society. Over the decades, Rubel Castle has instilled a work ethic in hundreds of young people and stands as a celebration of the independent spirit. Rubel Castle was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
