Another nordic skiing option, rolling hills through the woods - great for classic skiing.

Outdoor Recreation

Fish - Paddle - Float - Swim: A DNR canoe/kayak launch (Trout Run Landing) is just 2 minutes away on Phipps Road. Or venture out to enjoy one of many Hayward Area Lakes: https://haywardlakes.com/fishing-at-hayward-lakes/lakes/. There is plenty of room in our driveway to fit a trailer if you bring your own water craft. No boat? You can rent pontoons on Round Lake or at the Chippewa Flowage, or arrange for a private fishing charter. For swimming, check out Hayward Lake Public Peach right in town or Silverthorn Lake (9 minutes north just past Seeley). Ride: Connect to ATV/UTV/snowmobile trails by following Brook Lane back out to Phipps Road. Map: https://haywardlakes.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Sawyer-County-Snowmobile_ATV-Map-2020.pdf. Or, head over to nearby Runamuk Rides for rentals: https://www.runamukrides.com. Once again, our neighbors thank you for observing the 15 MPH speed limit on our road.

Bike and ski rental

Recommended for bike or nordic ski rentals. They sell active clothing, accessories, gear and fuel (Gu, etc.) as well. Great local shop with knowledgable staff. I never leave here empty handed!

The Brook Private Recreational Trails

Ski: Enjoy the Brook’s 14 km of professionally groomed trails for both classic and freestyle skiers, that link directly to the 100 km American Birkebeiner trail system. Pick up the ski trail right out the front door, on the west side of the cabin. Hike – Snowshoe – Trail Run - Fat or Mountain Bike: You don’t need to venture outside of The Brook’s own trail system to explore the beauty and wonder of the north woods all year round. The multi-use trails weave through heavily wooded areas and open meadows. The Brook trail system links every home site to the CAMBA Mosquito Brook trailhead.
