There are 2 ways to get to this pueblo. One is to hike the 6.5 miles from Sand Canyon Trailhead on Road G. The other is to drive out to Road N. You'll discover a very different climate at this end of the trail.

For more history and culture take the 45-minute drive west to Hovenweep National Monument. There are 6 prehistoric villages built between A.D. 1200-1300. Great hiking but be mindful of the potential for extreme heat and aridness in summer months.

Libations

Sample award-winning wines in a gorgeous setting. Whether you're coming straight off the trail at Sand Canyon (conveniently across the street) or dressed to the nine's you'll feel welcome at Sutcliffe. Everything is fantastic but I'm partial to the 2016 Chardonnay. If the Rose is in stock I recommend you buy as much as you can carry.

Fenceline is helping to restore the apple orchards of Montezuma county by creating some great tasting hard ciders. They've teamed up with Guy Drew Wine so you can sample both in the town of Mancos. Sit on the deck overlooking the river while you enjoy a flight of cider and a variety of food trucks that rotate throughout the week. They offer non-alcoholic ciders as well.

Drink like a local! WildEdge prides itself on supporting local from their decor to their food to their drink offerings. Come in for a flight and find your favorite brew to take home with you. They also offer locally brewed kombucha and wine. Highly recommended: the pretzel with mustard AND beer cheese.
