Roan Mountain's Carvers Gap has the Appalachian Trail or the AT run right thru it. Parking is quite busy but worth it in order to get a quick hike up to Grassy Gap or Roan High Knob for extended views of NC, Tennessee and Virginia mountains.

Rent kayaks, hike or fish, it's a beautiful drive to the back side of Beech Mountain overlooking the Tennessee border. Stop in the Beech Mountain Visitors Center to get trail maps or just speak with an expert on all things Beech!

TIP for skiing and snowboarding: Sugar Mountain has a longer run with less elevation slope... in others words Beech Mountain is more challenging so beginners should be more comfortable at Sugar Mountain. Both resorts are great fun!
