Things to do
Great for walking and biking. Family friendly and miles and miles of new cement trails. The trail head closest to Clancy's place is behind the Dairy Queen in Gresham, Texas, roughly 4.5 miles. If you leave the duplex to CR 149, make a left, go to the next stop sign and make a right, dairy queen is about 4 miles up Old Jacksonville Road. You will make a left at CR 2813 (South Tyler Speak easy is your landmark), make your first immediate right behind the Speakeasy and the trailhead parking is behind the Whataburger. This portion of the trail is about 8 miles, if you continue to Grande blvd going East you can ride to Troup highway and back making your trip over 20 miles.

33 miles from Clancy's place. A day of great fun can be had here! Hearing the screams of your children while a zebra pokes his head in your window as your record on your phone is certainly what every family vacation is made of. You kids may need therapy afterwards! Cherokee Trace Drive-Thru Safari

I love the Rose Garden, just so beautiful. The roses are best in Spring and September. Inside the visitors center is a great little gift shop and all the old dresses displayed from the past Rose festivals. Put your valuables up and lock your car here, break ins do occur.

I'm not the biggest fan of zoo's and animals being locked up in small quarters but Tiger creek does rescue big cats and takes really good care of them. Worth the drive and worth the visit. Go early in the am to see the big cats more active.

Great walking trails! Lots of people here. There is also a kids play area. If you hit the trail on Grande Blvd for biking and go East you can go all the way to Troup Highway and back for about 8 miles of really good hills and there is less walking traffic here.

This is one of my top grocery shopping stops. Good food at good prices. Get some of the tortillas they keep up front you won't regret it. If you are not from Texas, make sure to get half a gallon of Blue Bell ice cream!

A really cool place for a grocery store...but wait, it's more than just a grocery store. You can get stone baked pizza here, Pho, sushi, chef inspired soups and pre-prepared foods, chopped veggies, bakery items, a very large selection of wine and beer from Texas and all over the world. Stop by and get a mocha or a gelato. You will probably be here an hour or so. In the spring and summer they have bands playing and serve really good food. They also have a covered kids play area (closed right now due to covid).
