The perfect children’s beach with some of the finest sand in the Cyclades. It was named one of the world’s best beaches. A sandy paradise not to be missed. I recommend a dip there early in the morning – you’ll be all alone!

It’s a climb and a parking challenge but once up in Chora, the Plaka (main square) is a wonderful place to dine, meet people and breathe in the beauty of Greece. Wander around its winding, white washed streets and – a must – take in the sunset from up high. On the way up, there is a great ceramist shop called Keramio. In Chora proper, Stou Stratou is great for breakfasts and evening snacks.

There is a stunning, fortified monastery on the way to Platis Gialos. If the door is open, you’re welcome to go in. Also, don’t hesitate to ask around about Panigyris – or church festivals. Locals come out to celebrate the saint of each church. A great occasion to eat, drink and mingle with locals.

For some history, I recommend driving to the west side of the island to take in old, abandoned mining facilities and towns. While over there, stop in Megalo Livadi.
