City advice

Getting around

Cars are best transport to get out and about

Cars are the easiest transport to get you around. Buses are more regular in the towns like Bideford and Barnstaple, but very irregular in villages. You can get a train from Barnstaple to Exeter which takes just over an hour. Probably better for visiting Exeter, as parking is expensive.
Don't miss

The beautiful coastal walks and Tarka Trail

There are lots of coastal walks in the area, some easier than others. You can also hire bikes from Bideford, Torrington and Barnstaple (plus other nearby towns) to access the Tarka Trail, which is car free and only allows bikes and pedestrians.
Customs and culture

Delicious Cream Teas

These are available in most eating places, including some pubs. Don't forget it's cream first then Jam!
Book before you go

Restaurants

To avoid disappointment, it is advisable to book good restaurants before you arrive as these tend to get booked up very quickly, especially in the peak seasons.
What to pack

Comfortable walking shoes and a raincoat

There are lots of lovely places to walk, especially coastal walks. Also advisable to bring a raincoat, as North Devon is renowned for its showers.
