Nature, relaxation and exploration await you on British Columbia's beautiful Mayne Island. Mayne has a population of about 1100 people year-round and is approximately 21-square kilometres in size. The island has many parks with extensive networks of hiking trails, from flat strolls through Arbutus and Garry Oak groves, to steep climbs through Cedar and Douglas Fir forests ending on high-bluff vistas. Bring a canoe or kayak, or rent one to explore the sandstone shoreline. There is a grocery store, brewery, liquor store, health food store with deli, spa, hardware store, thrift shop, museum, historic church, clothing boutiques, bakery, pub, bistro, and art galleries. In the summer months there is a farmer's market and outdoor music events. Coming from Vancouver: Mayne is the second stop on BC Ferries' Southern Gulf Islands Route, a fully-serviced one hour ferry ride from the Tsawwassen terminal, and a 45 minute drive from downtown Vancouver. Reserve well in advance and here is no extra charge for walk-on, bicycle, or car reservations. Coming from Victoria or other gulf islands: Routes are not reservable, so get to the terminal early.
