Lovely cafe with very nice coffee and a range of vegan, veggie and gluten free choices (as well as things for meat-eaters). The staff are fab, the garden is glorious and the whole place is child-friendly. Excellent mushrooms on toast.

The Wetherspoons is quite special - housed in the old cinema, it has loads of atmosphere (though no natural light unless you sit in the vestibule!). The food is like all Wetherspoons - reasonable and filling - but the staff and atmosphere as well as the enormous size and cosy wood fire make it a really good choice for a cheap eat or a family dinner. It also has a courtyard outside and free wireless.

The Neptune is probably the best place to sit and drink in Whitstable. It is completely family friendly, serves food and a range of ales and other drinks and has the best sunset views you can imagine. Most people sit outside, but it is also cosy inside and often has live music.

The Pearson's is right down near the beach and has good food served upstairs and drinks and food downstairs. It gets busy, but the food is great and the atmosphere is festive. Like the Neptune, they do pints in plastic glasses to take onto the beach.
