Eastbourne offers a large stretch of the Sussex coastline. It's about a 35 minute drive away with some areas of free parking for those wanting to see the sea and even go for a swim. It also has plenty of shops and restaurants as well as theatres. At the far western end of the beach you can also make the steep climb onto the downs for some spectacular views.

A day at the seaside in Eastbourne! If it's just swimming you're after then head towards Pevensey Bay, otherwise for children's activities head towards the pier. For free parking and swimming and closer access to the old town (plenty of cafes and small shops) head towards the eastern end of the seafront and Helen's Gardens (free on street parking on the seafront!)
