Food scene

There are a plethora of great eateries in Whitby. Everyone has their own fish and chip favourites. Trenchers, Quayside, Hadleys…they’re all good. Avoid the curry houses, Chinese’s and Italians - nothing special. Al Taco are our favourite alternative to seafood. Always check opening times etc as these change. Not sure? You can always message me if you need help coming to a decision!
A must-visit. Book ahead online - though they do take walk-ins. You really need 2 visits - once to have their fabulous fish and chips - and twice to try out the wonderful fancier dishes. Their specials are fabulous. Go hungry and have the seafood cold platter to share as a starter. Good value wine too.

Lovely hidden beer garden at the back - walk round to find it. Fabulous seafood - really good value too. We had the seafood platter as a shared starter - yummy! Great interior tables too - you need to book interior tables for the evening but the outside tables are just turn up. choose low tide time for a walk across the sands to here. You can always get a taxi or the bus back!

Follow the walk along the railway line to Ruswarp with a lovely refreshment stop at the Cafe. Easy walk. Try their pitcher of Pimms. Great light lunches. Quiche is delicious.

Very atmospheric and memorable. Definitely book ahead online for weekends and evenings. Great Sunday lunch. Food is always great but in the past service level has been variable with the occasional long wait. They seem to have sorted that out now. Top recommendation for 2023. And it’s just across the road!

We love the Brewery. It's a must-visit if you like beer. They are serving the most delicious pizzas at the moment too- though they can often run out. They also sell wine and coffee etc etc and sometimes pork pies!

Great craft beer shop with the most fabulous mini taproom. A real favourite of ours. Opening times are subject to change and because it's small and popular you have to take pot luck about getting a table. But it's absolutely worth it.

Best pub in Whitby. Some drinks are pricey - but worth it. Try whatever Sue has on as her gin of the week. Or perhaps a Pimms? Perhaps a pint of Ratass? Maybe order some Yapas - Yorkshire Tapas - to go with it? Definitely try the chilli puffs.

If you are in Whitby on a Friday night DO book a table, enjoy some good value nosh, and hang on for DJ Mike's disco. DJ Mike is a legend! Great dancefloor, good range of drinks, fabulous views - and very close to The Lute Player so about a 100 metre walk to get home! They sometimes have a Live Act on a Saturday, sometimes a disco - free entry, great night out.

A window seat at the Duke is an ongoing life goal of mine. Get there at opening time to grab one. The beer here is a bit average but the WHISKIES!!!!!! Fabulous choice. Food is solid pub grub, with sharing platters etc. After their refurb they were doing great wine for £14 a bottle…now around £20.
