Sightseeing

The jail has recently re-opened after a massive amount of investment and renovation. Even if you don't fancy the whole CGI experience (read reviews - some people have complained it is too scary for small children) - it is well worth a visit to the cafe or restaurant and a nosey round the hotel. The work done to the hotel is incredible. And the project managers of that work stayed in this very house! There are not that many places to eat out in Bodmin - the jail is one of your best options!

Before I lived in Cornwall and used to holiday in Polzeath Lanhydrock was always a must - every holiday. For me its the kitchens. They are amazing and I go very Downton Abbey when I am there. Since living in Cornwall I visit often. The walks around the estate are wonderful and the cream teas excellent at both cafes. When younger my daughter loved doing the trail around the house (I think there is still a trail - don't quote me on that). For non-members it is a bit pricey. A NT membership is a good investment in Cornwall as it saves you a fortune on parking.

Best pasties (in my view - although obviously it is a vexed question in this part of the world). This is the address of the bigger outlet on the industrial estate. They also have a shop on Fore Street in Bodmin - bottom of the road - cross the 2 car parks (and the road in between) - cut up the path by the Bell Lane Fryer to the main shopping street. The bakery is to your left on the opposite side of the road.

Excellent Indian restaurant/takeaway. I love the lamb dhansak. You get a discount if you order over the phone and collect. At weekends it is wise to order early. Anything after 7 and you may have quite a wait.

Excellent fish and chips 5 mins from the property. Just walk to the bottom of the road and cross the 2 car parks (and the road) and you’re there.

Cycling

Bodmin is an amazing place to explore Cornwall by bike. The town itself itself if cycle friendly boasting priority traffic directions for cyclists. Cycle paths and routes course through the town and surroundings. You can ride straight from the heart of the town onto the Camel Trail that stretches towards the spectacular, coastal towns of Wadebridge and Padstow along the 11 miles of repurposed (flat) tramways that flow along the banks of the stunning river Camel out to the Atlantic Ocean. Cycle hire is available in Bodmin https://www.explorebybike.co.uk and Wadebridge. Alternatively head upstream along the Camel and climb onto Bodmin Moor and explore the beautiful village of Blisland and beyond. For those in search of adrenaline boosting singletrack the man made trails of Cardinham and Lanhydrock are accessible from the town, just follow the dedicated cycle route to wealth of fast flowing singletrack that threads its way through breathtaking forests that will leave you wanting more. There is so much more to explore around Bodmin by bike. Sustrans cycle routes link it with North and West Cornwall and beyond to Dartmoor and North Devon.Bike and walking trails to suit all ages and abilities. Also. The cafe does one of the best cream teas around.

Lovely beach with a great Hubbox burger restaurant. Also an indoor swimming pool should the weather misbehave. SUPs and kayaks for hire.

Entertainment

A relatively new addition to Bodmin. Brilliant to see an old building repurposed. Check out what’s on here www.merlincinemas.co.uk
