The WhirlyGig’s are downtown in Wilson. It’s like a park area where you can look at all the WhirlyGig ‘s. If it’s a little bit windy the WhirlyGig’s spin around and they look really cool. If you have kids they will enjoy seeing these and if you’re an adult you’ll still enjoy it.

This is a fun place to take the kids for exploration and hands-on museum type stuff. Through the years homeschooling our kids we would always make our way to the imagination station holding the random animals they have in cages taking pictures inside the big mouth with teeth And listening to interesting scientific lectures geared towards children.
Imagination Station Science & History Museum
224 Nash St SEThis is a fun place to take the kids for exploration and hands-on museum type stuff. Through the years homeschooling our kids we would always make our way to the imagination station holding the random animals they have in cages taking pictures inside the big mouth with teeth And listening to interesting scientific lectures geared towards children.
Exercise
This is a nice little lake in Wilson. I often take my three small dogs for a walk all the way around the lake. They do require your dogs to be on a leash. The dirt trail goes all the way around the lake and there’s a big bridge crossing the lake about halfway. The lake doesn’t have swimming access but you can bring your kayak, canoe, or small boat and paddle around the lake.A lot of people like to fish over near the dam.

There is a space for larger dogs to play and a space for smaller dogs to play. It is situated right near Toisnot park with a small lake and dam and playground for the kids.

Neighborhoods
Westwood Park is a small little park that has a dirt trail you can walk around for some exercise. This park it’s not even a quarter mile from the house but since Glendale is a little bit busy I would still drive to get there.

Parkway Street and this neighborhood were built in 1986. The neighbors on either side facing the street, Jane on the right and Dennis and Denise on the left, are friends of ours. We all like to look a out for one another. Marie lives diagonally to the right across the street. Bookie is directly across the street and for the most part everybody is very friendly. Just give folks a friendly wave and you will feel at home.

Parker’s barbecue has been around forever. It is definitely a WILSON favorite. They serve eastern North Carolina barbecue which is a vinegar-based barbecue if you didn’t know. It’s not a red sauce barbecue just FYI. But it is delicious! Their fried chicken is amazing as well.
Don’t go here to count calories just go to enjoy a-delicious, down home southern meal!

This is always our go-to when we can’t decide what to eat. My favorite is the steak hibachi and Cameron always gets the chicken hibachi with now onions. We slather it with yum yum sauce and we are always so full when we finish. You can always order the kids hibachi and it’s a perfect little portion if you’re not that hungry and that one comes with a drink. We don’t usually go and sit down and eat we just call it in and pick it up in like 10 minutes. But you can sit in there and eat if you’d like.

I had always been told it was a local favorite so one night for my son’s last day of school I took him to Beefmasters. We were a little overdressed but it didn’t matter because we felt good looking good anyway.😉The cook/owner came right up to our table and slapped a big old hunk of meat in front of us and said something to the effect of, “how big you want it?” I said, “right about there is fine.” He went back to cook up our steaks and we got up and loaded a plate full of salad fixings’ from the small salad bar. The waiter was a super friendly young man who delivered our baked potato and ribeye. It was indeed a terrific cut of beef, moist, tender and cooked medium rare just like I had requested. No frills, just good eats! I think I also heard from somewhere that you can take your pickup truck and do a little tailgating right out front and they will come and take your order and bring it out to you when it’s ready. Don’t quote me on that but it sounds fun!
