The Arboretum is composed of a series of gardens and trees within its five acres. We are a public educational facility operated under the auspices of South Seattle Community College. We are a 'living laboratory" for our college students and faculty who utilize the collections and natural plant communities for studies in a variety of disciplines. The Arboretum also serves the public as a garden for enjoyment. Here you will find beauty, knowledge and restoration in a garden setting. Next door to our Arboretum is the new Seattle Chinese Garden. Each garden is a member of the Garden Conservancy, a national organization committed to the preservation of historic gardens.

I grew up on the Olympic Peninsula and have traveled a fair amount around the world yet this rainforest holds a special place in my memories. It is profound in its majestic rainforest experience. This is a healthy drive from Seattle and you may want to plan an overnight or if camping is an option and is available. I can recommend amazing day hikes, meanderings or epic adventures.

An amazing adventure is to take the West Seattle Water Taxi from Alki beach to the downtown water front. It is approx 7 min crossing and is passengers only. It gives amazing iconic views and is a great entry point to the city. It docks you near the aquarium, ferry terminals, Ivar's shower house and just a few blocks up the hill via Pike Street Hill Climb is Pike Place Market.
