City advice

Getting around

Local Public Transportation

We use taxi's as inner city public transportation in Jamaica. These Taxi's are shared rides and everybody can jump in and out along the route the taxi drives. Every neighborhood has its own set of route taxi's. You see the route of the taxi printed on the side. You pay per person. Ask the price and check if the driver is going to your destination before entering. It can happen that you will need to hop on a next route taxi to reach your destination as route taxi's do not turn off from theire route. (Unless you pay them extra)
Getting around

City to City travel via Minibus

Each town had a designated bus park. Here you can take a bus to another city. In the buspark you will see busses parked waiting for passengers. Although the destination stands are rarely properly marked, the conductor will find you. And guide you to the bus you will need. Keep your luggage close to you, and be sure to check fares and destination with the driver before you board. Be prepared to pay for a seat for your luggage if you traveling with more than a backpack. The bus does not have a time schedule. It leaves when the bus is completely full.
