Rottnest (or Rat's Nest) Island is the only place in the world where you can find quokkas (dubbed "world's happiest animal" by NatGeo) in the wild. You can go for day trips or overnight stays. To best see the quokkas get a late ferry as they come out in large numbers in the late afternoon. The island has beautiful secluded beaches and coves which can be reached by foot, bike or the tourist bus. There is also a World War 2 gun and tunnel tour that can be reached by a little train ride which is great fun and educational as well as offering superb photo opportunities out over the Indian Ocean. For divers and snorkelers this is a fabulous place as it's both a marine reserve and the site of several wrecks. Snorkelers don't have to go far to find amazing fish, usually up to your waist will do. The island suits all ages and the sheltered bays provide the perfect beaches for little ones to splash around. Very few cars are allowed on the island so it's safe for little ones to run and play.

During the day this is a gastro pub and you can bring your kids for lunch. At night it's a nightclub with a great atmosphere. It's set out over the water at the end of Sorrento Quay so the views across the Hillarys Yacht Club and Indian Ocean are gorgeous.
