Private beach for the neighborhood one block from house. Great meeting place before sunsets, water sport and swimming area. You can boat or kayak, experienced only, across the river to Ware Point where there is a 900 acre sandbar with lots of beaches. This is a local favorite on Sundays. I would go another day. Waves can be rough in middle of the river. Kayak for beginners in the cove, Thicket and Parker Creek or Onancock Creek along the shore then around the neighborhood to the marina area for great views. Birds are mostly in creeks off the private cove by the house.

Interesting and important historical site over 200 years old just 10 minutes from the house. We spent 2 hours here on a guided tour. Special events too. You can walk to wharf from here too

Artists and local events are sometimes held here with the focus on families and kids. Just 10 minutes from the house. I believe there is a playground too. Dozens of artists work here and have various working hours. An outdoor music space in back is under construction. Check for possible events.

One of the largest antique/vintage stores in Virginia called the Blue Crow antique mall. Great to go on a rainy day to find your treasures. Just 20 minutes south of the house on route 13 in Painter Virginia You can easily spend an hour here and lots of good deals. Great finds to junk to food items. Something for everyone
