Situated on Estero Island, this 7 mile-long stretch of white sand is perfect for families. Thanks to its gentle sloping shoreline, Fort Myers is often referred to as the world’s safest beach. Fort Myers is the most popular beach destination for visitors looking to engage in watersports. Parasailing, kayaking, jet-skiing, and paddleboarding are just some of the fun activities on offer here. Away from the beach, the Fort Myers pier is the most visited attraction on the island. Extending 560 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, the pier offers excellent views across the water. If you’re a keen ornithologist, the pier is a great spot to do some bird watching! Good to know – Parking fees rage on parking locations. If you like fishing, Fort Myers is a must-visit. Known as a “fisherman’s paradise”, the warm waters here are home to an enormous variety of different fish. Good to know – As Captiva Island falls under Lee County Parks & Rec. regulations, dogs aren’t allowed on the beach. $5 per hr parking.

Driving time from Cape Coral: 50 minutes Distance: 29 miles Turner Beach which is located on the southern tip of Captiva Island is popular for fishing from the beach and rock jetty, shelling, and admiring beautiful Gulf of Mexico sunsets. It is located on Sanibel-Captiva Road, on the Captiva side (right at the “Welcome to Captiva” sign) of the Blind Pass Bridge. Swimmers should exercise caution when swimming near the bridge because of swift currents and strong undertow. Swimming further down the beach is a safer option. Bars and restaurants are close by or pack food and refreshments for a picnic on the beach. Good to Know Restrooms are available at Turner Beach on the Captiva side of the Blind Pass Bridge. Captiva beaches do not allow pets, open fires, or the collecting of live shells. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited from November through May. A Saltwater Fishing License is required to saltwater fish from shore. There is no fee for Florida residents. Parking is available but very limited with just 30 spaces so plan to arrive early. The parking fee is $5 per hour. Lee County Annual Parking Stickers are accepted. Handicap accessible parking is also available.
