Former Historical Brothel. Currently, a Venue for Live Entertainment, Killer Food, and Craft Beers. Highly recommend viewing their website for more information prior to visiting. Taken from Maxine's Website: EXPLAINING THE NAME MAXINE: We hail the old audacious ways of Maxine Temple Jones…she was “the madam of the most notorious brothel in one of the most well-known resort towns in the USA” quoted in the book, Maxine “Call Me Madam” The Life and Times of a Hot Springs Madam(yes… we have the books here for sale…interesting read for sure). Yes, Maxine had been around the block, so to speak, before she had ever visited Hot Springs. Once here she just fell in love with the town, and soon bought her first brothel located right above our bar, the entrance was on Prospect. She purchased the space in 1950 for just $1,000. The first night she owned the brothel house she had to turn a few “tricks” herself but that was the very last night of that. She made the decision the next day to be only the boss or “madam” and demand the respect of her girls and customers and run her business right. She was a success as far as whorehouses go. “When I was on top of the heap, I’d clear five thousand dollars a night. I had a Cadillac, a mink coat and a ranch. I rubbed shoulders with all the big politicians and their wives and they accepted me socially.” This was her top and there was definitely a bottom. There was prison, mobsters, threats, fires, FBI issues, judges, love affairs, friendships, and wars. Ultimately Maxine was a businesswoman. She was strong, courageous, and powerful. She set goals and reached them, she was fearless and fought for what she believed would work-a true rebel… we love her tenacity. Central Avenue has always served as the main thoroughfare of downtown Hot Springs. On one side of the street, historic Bathhouse Row boasts a handful of luxurious, preserved Spanish Revival, Victorian, and Greek Revival buildings. Lining the opposite side of the street is a collection of artisanal shops, art galleries, restaurants, and museums in Greek Revival, Italianate, and Colonial Revival structures. Immediately surrounding the street is the national park land of the Ouachita Mountains, steeply sloping upwards on both sides, stretching out for miles. Viewed from above, the street nestles deep in the valley, twisting and winding between the hills. On the north end, Alice Bush Memorial Fountain sits in the middle of the street and splits traffic into Whittington Avenue and Park Avenue. At the opposite end, Confederate Square acts as an entryway into the downtown. Lace bark elms shade most of the sidewalks, and city parks along the street offer resting spots for pedestrians.

The colorful history of the three eras of Arlington hotels is not architectural beauty and uniqueness alone. Always the center of activities in Hot Springs, the Arlington has hosted hundreds of grand balls and social events since 1875. Politicians, dignitaries, actors, gangsters and entertainment and sports legends bathed in our bath house, danced to our music and enjoyed our splendor and charm. The Arlington has survived a devastating fire, economic downturns, changing social attitudes and much more. Steeped in history, The Arlington is truly a legend. We have visited many times. The hotel is in need of significant renovation and restoration. However, it is worth a visit to the lobby and ballroom to experience the architecture and history.

Grocery Store

Located off 7 South and near Serenity on 7 South. A large supermarket we frequent often, as it is close and has a wide selection of foods and other items. We frequently buy fried chicken put in the ice-chest and take when boating on Lake Hamilton. In addition, we enjoy purchasing and grilling a Ribeye Steak rather than dining out.
