Excellent pies! This one is near the Olympic building and close to a nice playground for young kids. There is an other one, hidden behind the Dam square in the city center.

The Amsterdam ‘wood’, close to our house, you can have a nice bicycle ride via ‘het spijtellaantje’ and then behind the area of the Olympic stadion. In the wood you can climb, swim, have a picknick, walk, kano, eat pancakes, go to the goatfarm with kids. You can also drive and park there.

Amsterdam Noord feels a bit like the Brooklyn of NYC, a bit rough, mixed, but has a lot of nice places. You go there by metro (north-south line) or 5 min free ferry from central station. Nice places are the ‘van der pekstraat’ ‘Nieuwerdammerdijk’ , in the area of FC arena (movie theatre and cafe) you will find great cafes.

‘Old west’ and ‘de Baarsjes’ are nice neighborhoods. You can walk their from the Vondelpark or the Rembrandtpark (also a nice park, visit for example cafe ‘de huiskamer van Rembrandt’. One of our favorite streets is de ‘Jan evertsenstraat’ this ends in the ‘de clerqstraat’ when this ends you can go the the right to the Bilderdijkstraat or to the left en then you are walking to Westerpark. From the bilderdijkstraat you can also walk to the city center or via the kinderstraat en jan pieter Heijestraat (also very nice) to the Vondelpark.

Beaches

Zandvoort are Bloemendaal aan Zee are the closest beaches to Amsterdam. 30-40 drive, depending on traffic, when it’s very sunny the traffic is crowded and parking space limited, go early then. Parnassia is a good place to park. The waterleidingduinen are also nice to walk and spot deers. Around are a lot of nice cafe’s (also with kids) like near ‘het wed’ of ‘Kraantje Lek’.

Nice little city outside the city center, old houses, cozy shops and restaurants. You can combine it with the beach if you like.
