Food scene

Some of these we have tried, and some we haven't, but I hear they are all good.
Stonewalls is a great place to eat if you want a little something special. We went here in a date night. Great atmosphere and a huge firepit to sit by if you have to wait for a table. Our food was excellent. It is a good idea to make a reservation

2 different dining areas create 2 different experiences at Banner Elk Cafe & Tavern. Located in downtown Banner Elk, you can eat upstairs in the bar area with its great mountain decor, or downstairs in the restaurant area. There are 2 menus and both are available in both areas. Our family had eaten downstairs and I have eaten upstairs. There are comfy leather couches and table service in the bar area. On busy nights you have to be seated by a host.

Looking for something different? This place is sure to please. Their tapas menu offering Caribbean-inspired food is a nice change from the everyday. Many of their dishes are gluten and dairy free and they will work with other food allergies to the best of their abilities.

We have been here and were not disappointed. We were glad we got there and there was no line. As we ate our desserts sitting on a bench outside, the line to get ice cream grew and grew. It was a great ending to our meal at Serrento's.

Sightseeing

Once your are done eating, here are some places to check out...
Whether you hike or drive to the top of this amazing sight, it is not something to pass by. With the Mile High Bridge and the amazing vistas, your breath will be taken away. One man that worked there said his favorite thing to do, was to go up on a really clear evening in January, after dark, and he could see the lights of Charlotte twinkling in the distance.

A great place to cool off when you are feeling warm. These caverns were discovered in the 1800's and open to the public in the 1930's.

I try to get my family to take this to Boone every time we go. (There are complaints because it takes longer). The vistas are amazing and in the fall, the colors are breathtaking. If you can work this into your travels, you won't be disappointed.

This town is so amazing. I love to go here. there are cute shops, a huge playground for our kids that is located in the center of town, and more restaurants than I can name. A must-see...but check out the Painted Trout...great food.

Adventure

If caverns and Mountains aren't your thing, check out this places that can get your heart thumping...
This was so much fun!!! Open all year long, this outdoor roller coaster was great for our family. You can control the speed and that made it so much better for one of our daughters up who was absolutely terrified, but also really wanted to do it. If you get stuck behind someone that goes really slow, you can let them know and they will let you go again...but you go more than once anyway. Call ahead for reservations as parking is limited and so are the time slots

High Country Wine Trail

After adventure and skiing, sit back and sip...
We had not idea there was a Hight Country Wine Trail, but this is stop #1. Just a short drive (or Uber) away, this winery is lovely. There is a huge tasting room and seating outdoors. Our kids were able to run around while we were able to sit and relax and sip after a wonderful day on Sugar Mt. Check their website for hours of operation.

Here is stop # 2 on the High Country Wine Trail. We have not visited this winery ourselves, but it is very popular. You can sit by the brook and sip away, or hang out under the mountain-style pavilion.
