Okay, so it looks more like a coffee shop, but this place conjures up amazing fare from seasonal veggies, delicious meats, and yes, critical concoctions from the bean of caffeine. My favorite dish here is the Ensalada di Casa with roasted roots vegetables, avocado, mushrooms, and quinoa. My daughter's is the skirt steak. I think this is Equadorean cuisine, but it's true provenance is Heaven!

Last time I went, there were albino snakes, a scaled down town for kids to run, and a working garden during the warm months. And it's only 3 blocks away from the apartment.

This is a transportation hub and mall in one. It's right across the street from Barclay's Center. In addition to the LIRR, plus about 5 subway lines, there's a Target, Uniqlo, Guitar Center, Victoria's Secret, Old Navy, and many other major retailers here.

This is a stop for most in- and out-bound trains on the Brooklyn stretch of the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). If you're headed to JFK Airport, you'll catch the outbound train on the south side of the street and change at Jamaica station.

I know KFC is not the MTA, but this is where the A and C subway lines leave for downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan. (The A is express and the C is local.) You can access most parts of Manhattan here and by transferring to connecting lines at Jay Street Borough Hall or Nassau Fulton St. If you travel in the other direction from the Nostrand Avenue stop, you can ride the A to the Rockaways or transfer at Howard Beach to the AirTrain for JFK.
