Y Polyn is a small pub/restaurant tucked away in the verdant Towy valley between the county town of Carmarthen and chic Llandeilo. We're open six days a week, for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday and for lunch only on Sundays. We’re not trying to be cutting edge or post-modern here. You won’t find foams, gels and technical wizardry on the plate. What you will find is beautiful produce cooked simply and with respect. Saltmarsh lamb, Welsh beef and free range, rare breed pork are highlights of the well balanced menu. We’re very keen to avoid pretention at Y Polyn. Tables are mismatching bare wood, tablecloths are banished, staff wear jeans and you get to pour your own wine.

A few miles east out of Llandeilo, is one of the most spectacularly sited Welsh castles is Carreg Cennen, located north of Swansea, a few miles south-east of Llandeilo on a minor road off the A483. Spell-binding views are waiting to be experienced from the sharp hilltop upon which the castle sits. Indeed, Carreg Cennen dominates its surroundings, and seems out of place in the mountainous farming terrain which it commands.

Even at first glimpse, it is clear that the long ridge occupied by Dinefwr and the rocky knoll on which Dryslwyn sits perched are positions of the most extraordinary defensive strength. But suggestions that prehistoric fortifications possibly underlie the medieval castles are not borne out by any evidence. This said, the finds of Roman material within the locality of Dinefwr, and references in the Book of St Teilo and the Book of Llandaff indicate that nearby Llandeilo Fawr was a place of no little significance well before the arrival of the Normans.

These unique gold mines are set amid wooded hillsides overlooking the beautiful Cothi Valley. 2,000 years ago, the powerful Romans left behind a glimpse of gold-mining methods. The harsh mining environment continued in the 19th and 20th centuries, ending in 1938. Guided tours take you back to experience the conditions of the Roman, Victorian and 1930s underground workings. See and hear the 1930s mine and mine machinery. Have a go at gold panning and take the opportunity to experience the frustrations of searching for real gold.

The Red Kite Feeding Station is located in the village of Llanddeusant at the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Carmarthenshire, Wales. As natural scavengers Red Kites benefit from the food provided and the way in which it is made available in limited quantities. There is no doubt that this regular feeding has helped the Red Kite breeding population maintain it's stronghold in the Llanddeusant and surrounding area and, indeed, increase its numbers. In Wales 20 years ago there were less than 30 breeding pairs of Kites but now, with careful management and protection, there are now well over 300 pairs !
