Parks & Nature

The star attraction of the region and probably Norway’s most iconic scenic spot. The start of the hike is from Preikestolen Fjellstue, which is just a 10 minute drive away. There are bus options from Jorpeland and Tau plus a taxi service. There is no Uber service here but I am offering a similar private service for which I can drop you off at the start of the hike and pick you up once you are ready to be collected. This option is certainly cheaper than bus or taxi :-) It’s also possible to hike to Preikestolen from our house. It’s all uphill and takes about 4 hours. One option would be to take transport to Preikestolen Fjellstue and hike back from there.

This is probably the best hike in the area. Stunning views and NO (ok,very few) tourists. This is Norway at its finest. Reinarknuten towers 787 metres above sea level alongside Tysdalsvatnet lake. On this hike you climb a total of 450 metres and there are some steep patches. The walk takes 5 hours there and back. The view from the old cairn on the top is fantastic, taking in large areas of the lower Tysdalsvatnet and Ryfylke Fjords and the Ryfylke moors. Before ascending Reinarknuten you can look down the Skomakargjuvet gorge to Tysdalsvatnet, an amazing photo opportunity. It’s a 30 minute drive to the start of the hike and, again, I can arrange a drop off/pick up service.

A much easier hike than Reinarknuten with equally good views. The mountain is 439 metres above sea level and to the top and back takes about 90 minutes. This is about a 15 minute drive away,

This is quite a long drive (incredibly beautiful) so it’s best if you have your own transport for this.

Food Scene

Good for coffee, snacks or a light lunch. By far the best location in Jorpeland with beautiful views over the harbour. In good weather, the garden is a joy to sit out in and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Located in a beautiful hotel building, this is probably the closest we have in Jorpeland to a proper restaurant. Fairly expensive and the food can be a bit hit and miss.
