Choose a selection of meze (like tapas) dishes and their fried Cretan Graviera cheese; also have great slow cooked casserole dishes & excellent grilled meats. Reasonable house wines and ridiculously cheap prices.

We had a great family day out at this place. It's a manageable drive (with kids) from Heraklion, the village of Zaros is pretty and the food was excellent. We had a large salmon trout and a couple of meat dishes, everything was delicious. The place also has a gated playground so the children played there safely too.

Parks & Nature
Crete is a paradise of nature's beauty and bounty. Below is just a sprinkle of some local places and some of our favourites. We like to deep-sea scuba dive so south coast is our preference but the north coast has many beautiful beaches and coves for exploring.
10 mins - Episkopi village - a beautiful green oasis. Visitors can enjoy this green recreation area. This is a municipal park donated by Dr Panagiotakis to the then municipality of Episkopi. There's a children’s playground and a small outdoor theatre which hosts various art and cultural events during the summer.

This is a municipal park donated by Dr Panagiotakis to the then municipality of Episkopi. 12 minutes - Kokkini Hani - Great mini water park for those travelling with children. The area is part of the Arina Beach Resort and free for resort residents, there is a small entrance fee (€8.00) for children partaking in the water park activities.

Fairy Cave of Astrakon - Neraidospilios
In the Karteros Gorge near the Astraki River is the Fairy Cave – Neraidospilios. There are many springs around this area, it is said that the sound of the springs resemble gentle crying especially following rain when there is a bubbling sound, hence the myth of the crying fairy.
A great walk and adventure for spring & autumn. Too hot and exposed in summer and too slippery under foot in winter. Take a picnic.
