This 230 hectare city naturereserve is managed by Natuurpunt amongst 500 areas, together 22.800 hectare, in Flanders. They are an independent Volunteers Association dedicated to protect and preserve vulnerable and endangered nature. The beautiful Bourgoyen has a Environmental Center, at the main entrance, which holds a permanent exhibition about the reserve and passive housing. As the reserve is home to many hibernating bird species it has two birdwatch posts and it is a hot spot for wildlife photographers. Main entrance at Driepikkelstraat 32, 9030 Mariakerke

Very nice slow food brasserie in front of Sint-Pieters Sation serving in a beautiful location designed by Maarten Van Serveren (famous belgium designer) also showing pictures by Carl De Keyzer (well known belgium documentary photographer) with big terras. They serve brunch on Sundays and it's also very recommended for their gluten free dishes.
